Deck Build

This Deck build involved a wonderful widowed lady in her early 90’s. The couple had this retirement home built to suite their twilight years with a huge backyard with flowers and trees that would compliment the Banff Springs Hotel. To view this backyard off their kitchen was 2nd story spacious deck complete with railings and steps to enter this special piece of nature. The one thing they hadn’t counted on was the contractors inability to create drainage and adequate support for this 2nd story balcony. PC Construction Ltd was asked to repair a few boards on the top of this deck that were squeaking which seemed like a simple fix. Upon removing the boards to check them for warping I had no idea what was going on beneath what appeared to be a tar paper water barrier. Over the span of ten years silently rotting away was the plywood and joists as no clear path for drainage was ever considered. The first carousel of images shows the end result of water damage. The hole you will see is where I stepped onto the tar paper barrier with what was left of the plywood and joists below. The second carousel shows the steps in rebuilding the deck to be safe and secure compared to what was soon to be a death trap for a lady in her 90’s.

Deck Build

Sometime a ‘renovation’ can really mean a complete ‘rebuild’. At PC Construction Ltd. We take these things in stride knowing the end product will be so much better than what they had before. In this case the wood rot was down to the bone and so we removed the bones and started there. Upon completion this beautiful deck overlooking and incredible Pacific Ocean view came back to life again, but this time with lighting and a deck surface that allowed peace and tranquility 24/7.

Upper Deck Builds can have s safety concerns unlike lower deck builds but if in keeping with building safety protocols, this project became another uneventful completion with a very satisfied customer.

Some deck builds can become more of an artistic statement than a utilitarian production, this is one of them. PC Construction Ltd was asked to build a very precise curving deck with very little deviation since the slightest mis-cut would stand out like a sore thumb. It was a challenge but every good challenge is its own reward. Electrical conduit was also installed so BBQ to lighting could be later added should the client decide to up the patio experience.
